• Rate-Distortion-Perception Theory: Redefining the Fundamental Limits of Information Representation

Photios A. Stavrou, Giuseppe Serra, Marios Kountouris · 21 juillet 2026

Classical rate-distortion (RD) theory has long established the fundamental limits of lossy compression by quantifying the minimum number of bits required to represent a source under a prescribed distortion constraint. However, widely used distortion measures such as mean-squared error often fail to …

• Tight Sample Bounds for Renyi and Min-Entropy Estimation

Arman Adibi, Piotr Krysta · 21 juillet 2026

Estimating entropy from samples is fundamental in information theory and property testing. Shannon entropy measures average uncertainty and can be estimated to constant additive accuracy over a $k$-symbol alphabet using $\Theta(k/\log k)$ samples. Min-entropy depends only on the most likely symbol. …

• 6G Sensing Security: Distributed Game-Theoretic RL for Urban Beamforming and Attacker Detection

  Parmida Geranmayeh, Onur G\"unl\"u · 8 juillet 2026

In next-generation networks, communication systems will no longer be limited to data transmission and will be expected to acquire awareness of the surrounding environment. This leads to the concept of integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), where the same wireless infrastructure is used for bot…

Resource-constrained visual Internet of Things (IoT) systems, such as edge cameras, unmanned sensing platforms, industrial inspection nodes, and remote monitoring sensors, often need to transmit task-relevant visual evidence over low-rate wireless links to an edge/cloud service. Existing image commu…

• Minimum Distortion Quantization with Specified Output Distribution

  Aolin Xu · 10 juin 2026

We derive the optimal quantizer of a real-valued random variable $W$ with distribution $P_W$ such that 1) the distribution of the quantization output $X$ that can take $k$ values follows any specified distribution $P_X$ over $\{1,\ldots,k\}$, and 2) the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) of estimatin…

• Lost and Found in Translation: Variational Diagnostics for Neural Codebook Channels

  Yusuke Hayashi · 20 mai 2026

Classical communication systems fail not only through random noise but also when transmitter and receiver use incompatible operational codebooks. Variational autoencoders (VAEs) train an encoder $q_\phi$ and decoder $p_\theta$ jointly, and practitioners treat the resulting latent space as a discrete…

• Feedback Lunch: Learned Feedback Codes for Secure Communications

Yingyao Zhou, Natasha Devroye, Onur G\"unl\"u · 4 mai 2026

We consider reversely-degraded secure-communication channels, for which the secrecy capacity is zero if there is no channel feedback. Specifically, we focus on a seeded modular code design for the block-fading Gaussian wiretap channel with channel-output feedback, combining universal hash functions …

• Secure Rate-Distortion-Perception: A Randomized Distributed Function Computation Approach for Realism

Gustaf Åhlgren, Onur Günlü · 23 avril 2026

Fundamental rate-distortion-perception (RDP) trade-offs arise in applications requiring maintained perceptual quality of reconstructed data, such as neural image compression. When compressed data is transmitted over public communication channels, security risks emerge. We therefore study secure RDP …

• Channel Prediction-Based Physical Layer Authentication under Consecutive Spoofing Attacks

Yijia Guo, Junqing Zhang, Yao-Win Peter Hong · 23 mars 2026

Wireless networks are highly vulnerable to spoofing attacks, especially when attackers transmit consecutive spoofing packets. Conventional physical layer authentication (PLA) methods have mostly focused on single-packet spoofing attack. However, under consecutive spoofing attacks, they become ineffe…

• Model-Aware Rate-Distortion Limits for Task-Oriented Source Coding

Andriy Enttsel, Vincent Corlay · 16 février 2026

Task-Oriented Source Coding (TOSC) has emerged as a paradigm for efficient visual data communication in machine-centric inference systems, where bitrate, latency, and task performance must be jointly optimized under resource constraints. While recent works have proposed rate-distortion bounds for co…

• V2X-DSC: Multi-Agent Collaborative Perception with Distributed Source Coding Guided Communication

Yuankun Zeng, Shaohui Li, Zhi Li, Shulan Ruan, Yu Liu, You He · 3 février 2026

Collaborative perception improves 3D understanding by fusing multi-agent observations, yet intermediate-feature sharing faces strict bandwidth constraints as dense BEV features saturate V2X links. We observe that collaborators view the same physical world, making their features strongly correlated; …
