• From Concept Alignment to Causal Grounding: An Intervention Test of Chain-of-Thought Faithfulness

Qianli Wang, Yilong Wang, Dennis Wei, Jingyi Sun, Simon Ostermann, Pepa Atanasova, Nils Feldhus · 22 septembre 2026

Chain-of-thought (CoT) can sound plausible yet be unfaithful to the model's underlying reasoning. Most prior work probes CoT faithfulness through input--output behavior or input attributions, leaving internal computation largely underexplored. We instead cast faithfulness as internal concept groundi…

• Investigating Faithfulness in Large Audio Language Models

Pooneh Mousavi, Lovenya Jain, Mirco Ravanelli, Cem Subakan · 20 mars 2026

Large Audio Language Models (LALMs) integrate audio encoders with pretrained Large Language Models to perform complex multimodal reasoning tasks. While these models can generate Chain-of-Thought (CoT) explanations, the faithfulness of these reasoning chains remains unclear. In this work, we propose …

• FaithCoT-Bench: Benchmarking Instance-Level Faithfulness of Chain-of-Thought Reasoning

Xu Shen, Song Wang, Zhen Tan, Laura Yao, Xinyu Zhao, Kaidi Xu, Xin Wang, Tianlong Chen · 3 mars 2026

Large language models (LLMs) increasingly rely on Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting to improve problem-solving and provide seemingly transparent explanations. However, growing evidence shows that CoT often fail to faithfully represent the underlying reasoning process, raising concerns about their rel…

• Mapping Faithful Reasoning in Language Models

Jiazheng Li, Andreas Damianou, J Rosser, Jos\'e Luis Redondo Garc\'ia, Konstantina Palla · 28 octobre 2025

Chain-of-thought (CoT) traces promise transparency for reasoning language models, but prior work shows they are not always faithful reflections of internal computation. This raises challenges for oversight: practitioners may misinterpret decorative reasoning as genuine. We introduce Concept Walk, a …
