• CP-WSP: A Declarative CP-SAT Framework for Configurable Multi-Constraint Workforce Scheduling

Vipul Patel, Anirudh Deodhar, Dagnachew Birru · 7. Juli 2026

Workforce scheduling is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem requiring simultaneous satisfaction of labor regulations, coverage requirements, employee preferences and operational objectives. Existing CP formulations typically model simplified instances with 6-12 constraints at shift-level g…

• Qualified Educational Capacity Planning under Heterogeneous Student Support Needs: A Synthetic Benchmark and Decision-Support Framework

Carlos Eduardo Sanoja, Oscar Enrique Moreno Mayz · 1. Juli 2026

Educational support services often face a qualified-capacity problem: staff time is scarce, qualifications decay, new support needs can appear before anyone is prepared for them, and training consumes the same hours needed by current students. We introduce a synthetic benchmark and decision-support …

• Conflict-Aware Seat Assignment in Classroom Environments

Bruna Cristina Braga Charytitsch, Mari\'a Cristina Vasconcelos Nascimento · 7. Mai 2026

Classroom dynamics depend on various elements that influence teaching performance and learning activities. A key challenge is to determine the most effective seating plan, where students will seat in a specific classroom setting to achieve the best learning environment. This paper introduces the Stu…

• A hybrid solution approach for the Integrated Healthcare Timetabling Competition 2024

Daniela Guericke, Rolf van der Hulst, Asal Karimpour, Ieke Schrader, Matthias Walter · 4. Mai 2026

In this work, we present the solution approach for the Integrated Healthcare Timetabling Competition 2024 submitted by Team Twente, which ultimately ranked third among the finalists. Our approach combines mixed-integer programming, constraint programming, and simulated annealing in a 3-phase solutio…

• Quantum Annealing for Staff Scheduling in Educational Environments

Alessia Ciacco, Francesca Guerriero, Eneko Osaba · 3. März 2026

We address a novel staff allocation problem that arises in the organization of collaborators among multiple school sites and educational levels. The problem emerges from a real case study in a public school in Calabria, Italy, where staff members must be distributed across kindergartens, primary, an…

• Enhancing Genetic Algorithms with Graph Neural Networks: A Timetabling Case Study

  Laura-Maria Cornei, Mihaela-Elena Breab\u{a}n · 10. Februar 2026

This paper investigates the impact of hybridizing a multi-modal Genetic Algorithm with a Graph Neural Network for timetabling optimization. The Graph Neural Network is designed to encapsulate general domain knowledge to improve schedule quality, while the Genetic Algorithm explores different regions…

• Training-Conditional Coverage Bounds under Covariate Shift

Mehrdad Pournaderi, Yu Xiang · 9. Februar 2026

Conformal prediction methodology has recently been extended to the covariate shift setting, where the distribution of covariates differs between training and test data. While existing results ensure that the prediction sets from these methods achieve marginal coverage above a nominal level, their co…

• Beyond Manual Planning: Seating Allocation for Large Organizations

Anton Ipsen, Michael Cashmore, Kirsty Fielding, Nicolas Marchesotti, Parisa Zehtabi, Daniele Magazzeni, Manuela Veloso · 6. Februar 2026

We introduce the Hierarchical Seating Allocation Problem (HSAP) which addresses the optimal assignment of hierarchically structured organizational teams to physical seating arrangements on a floor plan. This problem is driven by the necessity for large organizations with large hierarchies to ensure …

• A Recommendation System-Based Framework for Enhancing Human-Machine Collaboration in Industrial Timetabling Rescheduling: Application in Preventive Maintenance

K\'evin Ducharlet, Liwen Zhang, Sara Maqrot, Houssem Saidi · 13. Januar 2026

Industrial timetabling is a critical task for decision-makers across various sectors to ensure efficient system operation. In real-world settings, it remains challenging because unexpected events often disrupt execution. When such events arise, effective rescheduling and collaboration between humans…

• Otimizando A Aloca\c{c}\~ao De Salas De Aula Com Foco Na Acessibilidade Para Pessoas Com Defici\^encia

Francisco Glaubos Nunes Cl\'imaco, Jorge Lucas Silva Cavalcante · 13. Januar 2026

This paper addresses the challenge of classroom allocation in higher education institutions, with an explicit emphasis on accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Employing a case study of a university's computer science department, the paper proposes an Integer Linear Programming (ILP)-b…

• A study on constraint extraction and exception exclusion in care worker scheduling

Koki Suenaga, Tomohiro Furuta, Satoshi Ono · 1. Januar 2026

Technologies for automatically generating work schedules have been extensively studied; however, in long-term care facilities, the conditions vary between facilities, making it essential to interview the managers who create shift schedules to design facility-specific constraint conditions. The propo…

• Optimisation of Aircraft Maintenance Schedules

Neil Urquhart (Navid), Amir Rahimi (Navid), Efstathios-Al. Tingas · 22. Dezember 2025

We present an aircraft maintenance scheduling problem, which requires suitably qualified staff to be assigned to maintenance tasks on each aircraft. The tasks on each aircraft must be completed within a given turn around window so that the aircraft may resume revenue earning service. This paper pres…

• Optimized Agent Shift Scheduling Using Multi-Phase Allocation Approach

Sanalkumar K, Koushik Dey, Swati Meena · 1. Dezember 2025

Effective agent shift scheduling is crucial for businesses, especially in the Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) industry, to ensure seamless operations and fulfill employee needs. Most studies utilizing mathematical model-based solutions approach the problem as a single-step process, often resulti…
